Tough decisions The finale of the Made in Denmark tournament was an all-English affair, with a four-way play-off between Lee Westwood, Jonathan Thomson, Steven Brown and eventual winner Matt Wallace. Wallace has climbed more than 1600 places in the world rankings since September 2015, and this win has placed him as an outside bet to make Europe’s Ryder Cup team this year. The automatic picks for Europe’s Ryder Cup team were also decided in Denmark, after Matt Fitzpatrick failed to overhaul Thorbjørn Olesen’s position for the final qualification spot. Fitzpatrick needed to win at Silkeborg, but finished three shots off the pace. Olesen, who finished tied-20th in the event, has had a victory and four other top-10s in his previous nine outings and will be making his Ryder Cup debut in Paris - although he does have some idea of what to expect, having watched the 2016 event at Hazeltine from Thomas Bjorn’s buggy. |
