Captains Charity Golf Day (AM-AM)
Tee times still available.
Dore & Totley Golf Club is holding a charity Am-Am on Friday the 19th August. The event will be in aid of Motor Neurone Disease South Yorkshire and we would like to raise as much money as possible for this cause. The cost of the event is £40 per person (£20 per Dore & Totley Member) - Teams of 4 There will be prizes for the best team scores, a nearest the pin on 2 holes and a nearest the line.
Following the golf there will be a two course meal.
If you would like to enter a team please fill in the attached entry form along with a cheque and send it to "Dore & Totley Golf Club, Bradway Road, Sheffield, S17 4QR".
Please make all cheques payable to "Dore and Totley Golf Club Ltd".
There will also be Evening Entertainment & an auction. This is open to all competitors plus family members and friends. The auction has a very special prize (A round of golf at Loch Lomond for 3 players) and we will be taking advanced bids.
This course can only be played with a member so it is a rare opportunity to play one of the iconic courses in the country. The cost of such a round would be £250 per person meaning this item does have a reserve of £600, so please contact Steve Roberts if you would like to place a bid.
Alternatively, make you bid at the evening event. This is an event organised in aid of our Captain's charity and we hope you will support him to make this event a success. In addition, we are looking for donations towards tombola prizes, so please donate what you can. If you would like any further information please contact Steve on 0114 2366844 (Opt 2).
Amateurs or pros?
Welcome to this week's newsletter. By the time you read this a few medals will have been handed out already in Rio - but who's going to take home Olympic gold in the golf?
The build-up to Rio - in terms of the golf - was dominated by many of the game's biggest stars dropping out, and these players have all received a lot of criticism for doing so.
Was the Zika virus a convenient excuse? Can today's elite stars be forgiven for skipping the Games because of their hectic schedules? Where does an Olympic gold medal stack up against a Green Jacket or Claret Jug?
Whatever your opinion, it has raised the question as to whether amateur golfers should have been targeted to represent the sport in Rio, rather than professionals.
We'd be interested to know your opinion, so pop to our homepage and register your vote.
It's a discussion that will rumble on. In the meantime, let's see how those who are playing get on. When the medal ceremony does take place, we wonder whether any of those who did decide to withdraw will regret their decision. Just a thought…
